According to Vasefinder.com, Staffel studied at the Toledo Museum of Art and The Cranbrook Academy. She studied under Alice Shaw, Harvey Littleton and Maija Grotell. Staffel exhibited at the Nationals in 1952, 1962 and 1964. All six bowls are signed to the base as "Staffel".
